E-procurement

E-procurement is a model that works trying to establish a new form of managing the purchases in an organization, in the attempt to generate a source of competitive advantages through the resource saving, a better level of information and a greater integration client-supplier. This is the result of applying electronic commerce technologies to an organization´s purchasing area, with the objective of facilitating the processes flow of the strategic supplying. In addition, e-procurement is one of the main pillars in the creation of e-marketplaces. This model represents a dramatic change towards the scheme of traditional work in relation to processes of purchasing and supplying. Through the e-commerce processes, an atmosphere is generated where any company, without concerning its size, can provide or buy better products at a better price, accelerating the purchase process, the payment of goods and services, and therefore helping to reduce costs, to make fast decisions and to obtain added values. Although the categorizaciones vary, it could be said that e-procurement has 3 categories:

Simple E-procurement: the acquisition of goods and services through simple purchasing processes.

  • Complex E-procurement: The acquisition of goods and services that, due to the great amount of articles or to their difficult description, require a special attention.
  • Strategic E-procurement: the process of selecting a small group of suppliers, evaluated to know if they can guarantee good price and power to respond to a considerable demand. Discounts and the services which can be seen as added value are taken into consideration. Items to be developed in this area are:

    • Administration and demands edition
    • Logistic
    • Payment processing through the Internet
